help simplify management of PDF
settings and ensure consistency
when you create PDF files in various
Adobe Creative Suite 3 components.
The default set of PDF presets supports
several common workflows,
and you can also create custom
PDF presets if the default presets
don’t meet your needs.
what should I do when I’m ready to
print a document?
Choose File > Print to open the
Print dialog box. To print a book or
selected documents in a book, you
must open the Print dialog box from
the Book panel menu.
The Print dialog box has eight
panes: General, Setup, Marks And
Bleed, Output, Graphics, Color
Management, Advanced, and Summary.
Each pane includes a set of
related controls. You can manually
adjust the settings in the Print dialog
box whenever you print, or you can
choose a print preset from the menu
at the top of the dialog box.
A print preset is a collection of predefined
output settings. Using print
presets is a fast, reliable way to print
jobs that require identical settings
in the Print dialog box. To create a
print preset, specify the appropriate
settings in the Print dialog box, and
then click Save Preset at the bottom
of the dialog box. You can also create
print presets by choosing File > Print
Presets > Define.
Are there any differences between
printing QuarkXPress documents and
InDesign documents?
The biggest difference between
printing QuarkXPress documents
and InDesign documents is that
InDesign has several printing features
that QuarkXPress doesn’t have.
Here are a few options in the Print
dialog box that may be unfamiliar
to QuarkXPress users:
Leave color spaces unchanged
when printing and exporting. If a
document contains multiple color
spaces—for example, both RGB
and CMYK objects and/or graphics—you
can preserve the color
spaces when you print or export the
document. This option yields the
best results when printing to devices
that can handle color conversion at
print time. Leaving the color spaces
unchanged preserves the widest
color gamut for documents with
multiple purposes.
To leave color unchanged when
printing, choose Composite Leave
Unchanged from the Color menu in
the Output pane of the Print dialog
box. To leave color unchanged when
