Workflow
The combined power of InCopy CS3
and InDesign CS3 lets you easily
assign, manage, track, and review
editorial changes to quickly reconcile
copy, graphics, and layout revisions.
Editorial and design staff—
whether offsite or on—can work
on the same file at the same time,
without overwriting each other’s
work. Designers retain complete
control over the design, and writers
and editors can produce or edit
copy in the context of the layout.
Frames selected in the InDesign
layout are added to the Assignments
panel in InDesign. When
content is ready for distribution to
a writer or editor, an assignment is
packaged up into an INCA file and
made available to the appropriate
contributor (via network or e-mail),
who can double-click the assignment
icon to auto-launch InCopy.
InCopy shows the assigned frames
within the context of the complete
spread. Contributors can check
out their content and begin editing.
Once contributors update the
assigned frames with either images
or content, the assignment can be
repackaged in InCopy and e-mailed
back to the designer, who opens it
in InDesign. With the InCopy and
InDesign workflow, designers and
editors are able to work simultaneously
on the same project, saving
time and effort.

An InDesign user working on a layout can create assignments for InCopy users
with the option to include all of the graphic and text elements that comprise a
story. the Assignments panel in InDesign lists the InCopy assignments. when
an InCopy user saves changes to an assignment, the InDesign user is notified
and can update the layout so that it contains the new content.
In an Adobe InCopy Cs3 workflow,
from one publication’s content, you
can create multiple assignments
delegated to various contributors.
