Family 19.—AGAKISTID^ (13 Genera, 76 Species).<br />

The Agaristidae are beautiful diurnal moths, allied to the<br />

Castniidae, but almost confined to the Australian and Oriental<br />

regions, with a few in the Ethiopian. The most important<br />

genera are,<br />

Agarista (21 sp.), Australia and New Guinea ;<br />

Eu-<br />

semia (31 sp.), JSgocera (7 sp.), Oriental and Ethiopian regions<br />

the other genera being confined to the islands from Java to New<br />

Guinea.<br />

Family 20.—UEANIID^ (2 Genera, 12 Species).<br />

These magnificent insects have a singular distribution.<br />

The gold-spangled Urania (6 sp.) is characteristic of Tropical<br />

America, but a single species of great magnificence occurs in<br />

Madagascar. The large but sober- tinted NydaUmon (6 sp.) is<br />

found in the Neotropical, Oriental, and Australian regions.<br />

Family 21.—STYGIID^. (3 Genera, 14 Species.)<br />

These insects are confined to the Palsearctic and Neotropical<br />

regions, 2 genera in the former, 1 in the latter.<br />

Family 22.—^GERIID^. (24 Genera, 215 Species.)<br />

This family is found in all parts of the world except<br />

Australia, ^geria is most abundant in Europe, but is found<br />

also in North and South America.<br />

Family 23.—SPHINGID^. (40 Genera, 345 Species.)<br />

The Sphinx Moths are cosmopolitan. The most important<br />

genera ave,—Macroglossa (26 sp.), Chcerocampa (46 sp.), and<br />

Macrosila (21 sp.), all cosmopolitan ; Sesia (12 sp.), Europe, Asia,<br />

and North Americsi ; Deilephila (19 sp.), Palaearctic and Oriental<br />

regions, Nearctic region, and Chili; Sphiiwc (21 sp.), Europe,<br />
