Contents: 4-line jingle about <strong>Joyce's</strong> publishing troubles, with reference<br />

to, <strong>and</strong> play on the names of Samuel Roth, editor of Two<br />

Worlds <strong>and</strong> unauthorized publisher of Ulysses <strong>and</strong> parts of FW in<br />

the United St<strong>at</strong>es (1925-27), <strong>and</strong> Crosby Gaige, who published the<br />

authorized edition of Anna Livia Plurabelle in New York, October<br />

20, 1928:<br />

Wh<strong>at</strong> colour's Jew Joyce when he's rude <strong>and</strong> grim both,<br />

Varied virid from groening <strong>and</strong> rufous with rage<br />

Loose Sheets, typescript (original typed with black ribbon <strong>and</strong> black<br />

carbon copy), double-spaced.<br />

Title: "FATHER O'FORD (Air: F<strong>at</strong>her O'Flynn)"<br />

Coll<strong>at</strong>ion: 2 sheets of unlined paper, each sheet written on one side<br />

only; top edges serr<strong>at</strong>ed. 24.7 x 20.8 cm.<br />

Contents: 8 lines to the air of "F<strong>at</strong>her O'Flynn," making fun of Ford<br />

Madox Ford's many conquests. There are a number of variants,<br />

mainly of punctu<strong>at</strong>ion, between MS. <strong>and</strong> published version.<br />

Other Markings: Typed sign<strong>at</strong>ure, "<strong>James</strong> Joyce." Original sheet<br />

has penciled d<strong>at</strong>e "1930" not in <strong>Joyce's</strong> h<strong>and</strong> (perhaps h<strong>and</strong> of<br />

Sylvia Beach).<br />
