"Beach" appears in pencil.<br />

D<strong>at</strong>ing: The printer of Ulysses began to set type for proofs in April<br />

of 1921; Ulysses was published February 2, 1922. The earliest<br />

d<strong>at</strong>e shown on the page proofs here described is June 30,1921, the<br />

l<strong>at</strong>est October 17, 1921.<br />

*V. C. 3. ULYSSES: SLIP PROOFS<br />

Coll<strong>at</strong>ion: 18 slip proofs printed on large sheets, folded to make 8<br />

leaves (except "Placard XI" which is only half the size of the<br />

other sheets <strong>and</strong> is folded to make 4 leaves), each leaf measuring<br />

approx. 23.5 x 18.5 cm. Printed on one side of paper only; 8 pages<br />

of text per sheet, versos blank.<br />

Pagin<strong>at</strong>ion: Sign<strong>at</strong>ures appear on upper left corner of each proot,<br />

numbered "Placard I" to "Placard XI." Pages of text also numbered<br />

with Arabic numerals, but some errors in pagin<strong>at</strong>ion occur.
