specimen <strong>of</strong> P. paucarae from ZMHB<br />

bears Ohaus’ orange type label stating “Platycoelia<br />

variolosa cotype Ohs.” Another Ecuadorian<br />

specimen (<strong>of</strong> P. nigrosternalis) at<br />

NMPC bears Ohaus’ determination label stating<br />

“Platycoelia variolosa Cotype F Ohs.”<br />

Since Ecuador was not mentioned in the original<br />

description <strong>of</strong> P. variolosa, neither <strong>of</strong> these<br />

specimens are part <strong>of</strong> the type series. Type<br />

locality: Colombia.<br />

DESCRIPTION. Male (n=10). Length 26.8-<br />

29.1 mm, width 14.4-17.3 mm. Color dorsally<br />

light green to olive green with yellow elytron,<br />

pronotum, and scutellum margins. Ventrally<br />

light green with metasternum, abdominal<br />

sternites black medially (sometimes black<br />

extends to lateral margins). Body ovate,<br />

strongly convex. Head: Dorsal surface glabrous.<br />

Frons densely punctate, clypeus<br />

rugopunctate, punctures small or moderate.<br />

Frons not depressed. Frontoclypeal suture<br />

incomplete, absent medially. Clypeus subrectangular.<br />

Eyes separated by approximately<br />

3.0 transverse eye-widths. Labrum moderately<br />

punctate, with moderately large, setose<br />

punctures, setae tawny. Apex <strong>of</strong> labrum with<br />

triangular, medial tooth; apex <strong>of</strong> tooth broadly<br />

truncate, extending past apex <strong>of</strong> mentum.<br />

Apex <strong>of</strong> mentum with triangular medial tooth<br />

curved into oral cavity. Antenna 10-segmented;<br />

club approximately equal to other<br />

segments combined, slightly longer than<br />

length <strong>of</strong> frons. Pronotum: Surface glabrous,<br />

densely punctate, with small or moderate<br />

punctures. Marginal bead weak apicolaterally,<br />

absent elsewhere. Elytron: Surface<br />

glabrous; longitudinal striae weakly punctate,<br />

punctures moderate with dark coloration;<br />

intervals densely punctate, punctures<br />

small. Suture angled apically, without spine.<br />

Pygidium: Width approximately 2.7 times<br />

length medially. Surface weakly convex,<br />
