Legs: Modified protarsal claw with ventral<br />

tooth, not thickened.<br />

VARIATION. Male (n=126). Length 16.0-<br />

20.5 mm, width 8.9-11.0 mm (Fig. 77). Female<br />

(n=7). Length 16.9-19.6 mm, width 9.2-10.3<br />

mm. The paratypes do not differ significantly<br />

from the holotype and allotype. Additional characters<br />

as follows. Head: Mandibular scissorial<br />

region with weak apical tooth, no medial tooth;<br />

molar region without lamellae. Maxilla with 2<br />

weak, apical teeth. Male Genitalia: Phallobase<br />

approximately 1.3 times longer than length <strong>of</strong><br />

parameres. Parameres with apex rounded.<br />

ETYMOLOGY. Platycoelia inca is named after<br />

the pre-Spanish rulers <strong>of</strong> the area in<br />

which this species occurs.<br />

DIAGNOSIS. This species is distinguished<br />

from all other species in the genus Platycoelia<br />

by the following combination <strong>of</strong> characters:<br />

dorsally with tan head and scutellum, brown<br />

pronotum and pygidium, dark brown elytron;<br />

frons sparsely setose laterally; frontoclypeal<br />

suture complete; apex <strong>of</strong> the labrum with a<br />

reduced, triangular tooth not overlapping the<br />

mentum; mentum with a medial notch; antenna<br />

9-segmented; pronotum well-separated<br />

from the eyes, sparsely setose, with weak<br />

maculations; elytron without distinct, yellow,<br />

longitudinal lines; elytral apices not capable<br />

<strong>of</strong> completely covering the pygidium; apex <strong>of</strong><br />

the elytral suture without an acute spine;<br />

mesothoracic process nub to weakly projecting<br />

apically; apical abdominal spiracle<br />

strongly protuberant; mesotarsomere 5 and<br />

metatarsomere 5 without an internal tooth;<br />

parameres with the apex rounded, not expanded.<br />

DISTRIBUTION (Fig. 73). Ayacucho, Perú is<br />

the only known locality for this species.<br />
