internal tooth. Unguitractor plate cylindrical,<br />

with 2 apical setae. Modified protarsal<br />

claw approximately equal in length to<br />

protarsomere 5, thickened and elongate when<br />

compared with other claw, diagonally flattened,<br />

apex unevenly bifurcate. Modified<br />

mesotarsal and metatarsal claw elongate,<br />

with ventral tooth, not thickened. Male Genitalia:<br />

Phallobase approximately 1.1 times<br />

longer than length <strong>of</strong> parameres. Parameres<br />

with apex rounded, setose, expanded.<br />

Female (n=167). Length 19.0-29.4 mm,<br />

width 10.2-15.5 mm (Fig. 43). As male except<br />

in the following respects. Legs: Protibia with<br />

3 distinct teeth in apical half. Protarsomere 4<br />

without internoapical stridulatory ridge.<br />

Protarsomere 5 without internal tooth. Modified<br />

protarsal and mesotarsal claw with ventral<br />

tooth, not thickened.<br />

DIAGNOSIS. This species is distinguished<br />

from all other species in the genus Platycoelia<br />

by the following combination <strong>of</strong> characters:<br />

labrum with a broad, triangular apical<br />

tooth strongly overlapping the mentum; antenna<br />

9-segmented; mesothoracic process cylindrical;<br />

metasternum brown to black;<br />

abdominal sternites dark brown to black (at<br />

least medially); protibia with 1 prominent<br />

tooth; protibial apical tooth acuminate;<br />

protarsomere 5 with an internoapical stridulatory<br />

tooth; modified mesotarsal claw with a<br />

ventral tooth; paramere with apex distinctly<br />

expanded.<br />

DISTRIBUTION (Fig. 42). Eastern slope <strong>of</strong><br />

the Andes Mountains from western Venezuela<br />

to northern Perú.<br />
