in apical half. Protarsomere 4 without apical<br />

stridulatory ridge. Protarsomere 5 without<br />

internal tooth. Modified protarsal claw elongate,<br />

with ventral tooth, not thickened.<br />

VARIATION. Male (n=1). Length 23.3-23.5<br />

mm, width 12.9-13.4 mm. Female (n=14).<br />

Length 18.9-23.2 mm, width 11.3-13.7 mm<br />

(Fig. 44). The paratypes differ from the holotype<br />

and allotype in the following respects.<br />

Color sometimes yellow to dark yellow.<br />

ETYMOLOGY. Platycoelia meridensis is<br />

named after the region <strong>of</strong> Venezuela to which<br />

it is endemic.<br />

DIAGNOSIS. This species is distinguished<br />

from all other species in the genus Platycoelia<br />

by the following combination <strong>of</strong> characters:<br />

labrum with a broad, triangular apical<br />

tooth strongly overlapping the mentum; antenna<br />

9-segmented; mesothoracic process cylindrical;<br />

protibia with 2 prominent teeth;<br />

protibial apical tooth acuminate; protarsomere<br />

5 with an internoapical stridulatory<br />

tooth; modified mesotarsal claw with a ventral<br />

tooth; paramere with apex distinctly expanded.<br />

DISTRIBUTION (Fig. 42). Mérida province<br />

in Venezuela.<br />

LOCALITY DATA. 18 specimens examined<br />

from ABTS, CBAC, CMNC, MIZA, UCDC,<br />

ZMHB.<br />

One female specimen at ZMHB was labeled<br />

“Borneo.” I excluded this specimen from<br />

the type series because <strong>of</strong> the erroneous label<br />

data.<br />
