following respects. Color <strong>of</strong> body greenish-yellow,<br />

metasternum with distinct medial black<br />

line. Female unknown.<br />

ETYMOLOGY. Platycoelia hiporum is<br />

named after the Canadian band “The Tragically<br />

Hip.”<br />

DIAGNOSIS. This species is distinguished<br />

from all other species in the genus Platycoelia<br />

by the following combination <strong>of</strong> characters:<br />

clypeal apex not reflexed; frontoclypeal suture<br />

incomplete; labrum with a well-developed,<br />

truncate apical tooth strongly overlapping the<br />

mentum; mentum with a distinct tooth curved<br />

into the oral cavity; antenna 10-segmented;<br />

pronotum surface densely punctate with mix<br />

<strong>of</strong> small and moderate punctures; elytron<br />

without distinct, yellow, longitudinal lines;<br />

elytral apices capable <strong>of</strong> completely covering<br />

the pygidium; pygidium entirely setose;<br />

metasternum with a dark medial patch; abdominal<br />

sternites green or yellow; protibial<br />

apical 2 teeth adjacent, located in the apical<br />

quarter <strong>of</strong> the protibia; protibial spur noticeably<br />

shorter than adjacent tibial apex;<br />

protarsomere 3 in males without a distinct<br />

apical stridulatory patch; modified protarsal<br />

claw in males laterally flattened; mesotarsomere<br />

4 and metatarsomere 4 in males with<br />

an apical stridulatory ridge; mesotarsomere 5<br />

and metatarsomere 5 with an internobasal<br />

tooth; parameres with apex dorsoventrally<br />

flattened.<br />

DISTRIBUTION (Fig. 63). Andes Mountains<br />

from extreme southern Colombia to northern<br />

Ecuador.<br />

from ANSP, CMNH, QCAZ.<br />

HOLOTYPE. Male: length 29.6 mm, width<br />

16.4 mm. Color light green with yellow<br />

elytron margin. Body ovate, strongly convex.<br />

Head: Dorsal surface glabrous. Frons densely<br />

punctate, clypeus rugopunctate, punctures<br />

small or moderate. Frons not depressed.<br />

Frontoclypeal suture complete. Clypeus<br />

subrectangular, apex weakly reflexed. Eyes<br />

separated by approximately 3.6 transverse<br />

eye-widths. Labrum sparsely punctate, with
