specimen in the type series (Ohaus 1904b)<br />

therefore the holotype is fixed by monotypy.<br />

Type locality: Chanchamayo, Junín, Perú.<br />

DESCRIPTION. Female (n=1). Length 21.2<br />

mm, width 12.5 mm. Color dorsally black;<br />

ventrally reddish-brown to dark brown. Body<br />

subelliptical, convex. Head: Dorsal surface<br />

glabrous. Frons moderately punctate (base) to<br />

rugose (apex), clypeus rugose, punctures moderate.<br />

Frons broadly depressed medioapically.<br />

Frontoclypeal suture complete, obscured by<br />

punctures. Clypeus broadly rounded, apex<br />

slightly reflexed. Eyes separated by approximately<br />

3.2 transverse eye-widths. Labrum<br />

densely punctate, with moderately large, setose<br />

punctures, setae tawny. Apex <strong>of</strong> labrum<br />

with minute, triangular, medial tooth, apex <strong>of</strong><br />

tooth well separated from apex <strong>of</strong> mentum.<br />

Mandibular scissorial region with three teeth;<br />

apical 2 teeth adjacent, third tooth near base;<br />

molar region with lamellae. Maxilla with<br />

three apical teeth. Apex <strong>of</strong> mentum with medial<br />

notch. Antenna 10-segmented; club<br />

approximately equal to segments 2-7,<br />

approximately equal to clypeal length.<br />

Pronotum: Surface glabrous, sparsely punctate,<br />

with moderate punctures. Marginal bead<br />

present apically (except medially) and later-<br />

ally, absent basally. Elytron: Surface glabrous;<br />

longitudinal striae weakly punctate; intervals<br />

impunctate. Suture apically rounded. Pygidium:<br />

Width approximately 1.8 times<br />

length medially. Surface smooth, flat,<br />

impunctate (except sparsely punctate near<br />

apex); punctures moderate with scattered setae;<br />

setae long, tawny. Venter: Thorax moderately<br />

setose laterally; setae long, tawny.<br />

Mesothoracic process barely produced, projecting<br />

anteriorly to subapex <strong>of</strong> mesocoxa.<br />

Abdomen sparsely setose; setae moderatelysized,<br />

tawny. Apical spiracles not extruding.<br />

Legs: Protibia with 3 teeth in apical half; first<br />

and second teeth subequal in size; third tooth<br />

shorter, removed slightly from apical teeth.<br />

Mesotibia and metatibia widest apically.<br />

Protarsomeres 2-4 wider than long. Protarsomere<br />

5 and mesotarsomere 5 without internal<br />

tooth. Unguitractor plate cylindrical, with<br />

1 apical and 1 subapical seta. Modified protarsal<br />

claw with ventral tooth, not thickened.<br />

Male: Unknown.<br />

DIAGNOSIS. This species is distinguished<br />

from all other species in the genus Platycoelia<br />

by the following combination <strong>of</strong> characters:<br />

dorsal color black; frons medioapically depressed;<br />

frontoclypeal suture complete; apex<br />

<strong>of</strong> the labrum with a reduced, triangular tooth<br />

not overlapping the mentum; mentum with a<br />

medial notch; antenna 10-segmented; elytron<br />

without distinct, yellow, longitudinal lines;<br />

elytral apices not capable <strong>of</strong> completely covering<br />

the pygidium; apex <strong>of</strong> the elytral suture<br />

without an acute spine; mesothoracic process<br />

nub to weakly projecting apically; apical abdominal<br />

spiracle not protuberant; mesotarsomere<br />

5 and metatarsomere 5 without an<br />

internal tooth.<br />

DISTRIBUTION (Fig. 73). The only known<br />

locality is Chanchamayo, Perú.<br />

LOCALITY DATA. 1 specimen examined<br />

from SMTD.<br />
