The number of Net Permanent Paid (NPP) employees managed by the Group at 31 december 2009<br />
was 201,740, up 28,552 NPP from the prior year. NPP figures are measured pro rata to working hours.<br />
The NPP workforce measures count active employees and employees <strong>on</strong> paid absences who are<br />
<strong>on</strong> c<strong>on</strong>tracts (permanent or fixed-term) of six m<strong>on</strong>ths or l<strong>on</strong>ger. Interns, apprentices, VIE volunteers,<br />
subc<strong>on</strong>tractors and temporary staff are not counted. Group<br />
In France, the workforce managed by the Group was 64,635 NPP. For <strong>BNP</strong> <strong>Paribas</strong> SA,<br />
the figure stands at 37,833 NPP, including 172 employees hired under fixed-term c<strong>on</strong>tracts<br />
with a durati<strong>on</strong> of more than six m<strong>on</strong>ths. France<br />
The c<strong>on</strong>cept of cadre as used in a French work envir<strong>on</strong>ment, loosely translated as “executive”<br />
or “manager”, cannot be transposed as such to worldwide operati<strong>on</strong>s.<br />
For informati<strong>on</strong> purposes <strong>on</strong>ly, the ratio of “cadres” (executive or managerial employees)<br />
to all employees of <strong>BNP</strong> <strong>Paribas</strong> SA has varied as follows since 2002:<br />
35.7% in 2002;<br />
37.7% in 2003;<br />
39.7% in 2004;<br />
42.4% in 2005;<br />
44.6% in 2006;<br />
47.4% in 2007;<br />
47.3% in 2008;<br />

In the year to 31 december 2009, the total number of pers<strong>on</strong>s hired under permanent c<strong>on</strong>tracts<br />
worldwide was 14,549, of which 55% were women. Group<br />

6. Recruitment difficulties, if any<br />
The attractiveness of the <strong>BNP</strong> <strong>Paribas</strong> Group as an employer remains very high,<br />
with 170,000 unsolicited job applicati<strong>on</strong>s received in 2009. Group<br />
In 2009 new hires c<strong>on</strong>tinued to be evenly split between young graduates (50%)<br />
and employees with previous work experience (50%).<br />
