global people survey:<br />
tracing the road ahead<br />
in 2008 the bnP <strong>Paribas</strong> launched an<br />
annual “global People survey” in 10 languages<br />
for a populati<strong>on</strong> of 25,000 employees<br />
around the world.<br />
in 2009, the survey process was greatly<br />
expanded and was c<strong>on</strong>ducted <strong>on</strong>line<br />
for the first time. the questi<strong>on</strong>naire was<br />
developed in 17 languages and included<br />
80 questi<strong>on</strong>s in 15 different themes. it also<br />
included an open-ended questi<strong>on</strong> asking<br />
employees to comment <strong>on</strong> the directi<strong>on</strong><br />
for change within the organisati<strong>on</strong>.<br />
the new editi<strong>on</strong> of the survey provided an<br />
opportunity to gauge the level of commitment<br />
of the group’s worldwide employees<br />
al<strong>on</strong>g with their opini<strong>on</strong>s about<br />
their day-to-day work, their image of the<br />
bank and of its management teams and<br />
bnP <strong>Paribas</strong>’s corporate social and envir<strong>on</strong>mental<br />
resp<strong>on</strong>sibility (csr) efforts.<br />
the sec<strong>on</strong>d editi<strong>on</strong> of the global People<br />
survey was c<strong>on</strong>ducted with the assistance<br />
of towers wats<strong>on</strong> which analysed<br />
and processed the survey results in a<br />
manner which ensured strict an<strong>on</strong>ymity<br />
and c<strong>on</strong>fidentiality. the june 2009<br />
editi<strong>on</strong> of the survey was extended to<br />
a sample base of 163,000 employees in<br />
75 countries and included employees<br />
from bnP <strong>Paribas</strong> fortis. this larger sample<br />
base provided more representative<br />
survey results. the survey was <strong>on</strong>e of the<br />
first corporate projects organised in collaborati<strong>on</strong><br />
with fortis. the overall survey<br />
resp<strong>on</strong>se rate for 2009 was 51%, giving<br />
83,000 completed questi<strong>on</strong>naires.<br />
the results provided data for each business<br />
area, divisi<strong>on</strong>, functi<strong>on</strong> and country.<br />
survey results were further broken down<br />
by age, seniority, etc. to provide an invaluable<br />
informati<strong>on</strong> source which enables<br />
comparis<strong>on</strong>s between group entities and<br />
facilitates sharing of good practices. the<br />
changes in survey resp<strong>on</strong>ses from year to<br />
year helped to highlight areas of acti<strong>on</strong><br />
for group entities.<br />
