16. Changes in remunerati<strong>on</strong><br />
The annual wage bargaining round in 2009 for pay in 2010 led to an agreement signed by three<br />
of the five labour uni<strong>on</strong>s. These three bodies represented 70% of the votes cast at the last electi<strong>on</strong><br />
for employee representatives.<br />
The agreement has several comp<strong>on</strong>ents:<br />
• a l<strong>on</strong>g-term measure: an across-the-board 1% wage increase, but with a floor provisi<strong>on</strong><br />
of EUR 320 as from 1 January 2010;<br />
• an excepti<strong>on</strong>al b<strong>on</strong>us of EUR 1,200 pro-rated according to working hours.<br />
• In additi<strong>on</strong>, as in previous years, the agreement earmarks EUR 1 milli<strong>on</strong> to closing wage discrepancies<br />
between men and women. This is the third c<strong>on</strong>secutive year that this measure has been enforced. SA Mainland<br />
17. Payroll expenses<br />
The Group’s social security charges for 2009 totalled EUR 3,529 milli<strong>on</strong>, up from last year due primarily<br />
to the integrati<strong>on</strong> of <strong>BNP</strong> <strong>Paribas</strong> Fortis. Group<br />
18. Applicati<strong>on</strong> of the provisi<strong>on</strong>s of Title IV, Book IV of the French Labour Code<br />
(incentive and profit-sharing plans, employee savings plans)<br />

In 2009, profit-sharing and incentive amounts accruing to employees of <strong>BNP</strong> <strong>Paribas</strong> SA in respect<br />
of 2008 earnings amounted to EUR 84.9 milli<strong>on</strong>, or a minimum of EUR 1,738 and a maximum<br />
of EUR 4,641 per employee (<strong>on</strong> a full-time employee basis). SA Mainland<br />
The geographic breakdown of staff outside France that took up the 2009 employee share issue was as<br />
follows:<br />
• Europe: 58.7%<br />
• Asia: 24.6%<br />
• North America: 7.0%<br />
• Latin America: 4.2%<br />

19. Gender equality in the workplace<br />

53.1% of <strong>BNP</strong> <strong>Paribas</strong> employees worldwide are women (based <strong>on</strong> physical headcount). Group<br />
The physical headcount of the Group in France comprises 43% of men and 57% of women. Group in France<br />
<strong>BNP</strong> <strong>Paribas</strong> SA’s physical staff in mainland France is composed of 16,916 men and 21,975 women.<br />
The enterprise agreement of 9 April 2004 was amended in 2005 and 2006 and then replaced<br />
by the agreement of 30 July 2007. This agreement sets down the principles that should be followed in<br />
observing and developing equality of opportunity and treatment between men and women<br />
at all stages of professi<strong>on</strong>al life.<br />
The proporti<strong>on</strong> of female executives has c<strong>on</strong>tinued to rise:<br />
• 34.2% in 2001;<br />
• 35.7% in 2002;<br />
• 36.9% in 2003;<br />
• 37.7% in 2004;<br />
• 38.8% in 2005;<br />
• 40.3% in 2006;<br />
• 41.4% in 2007;<br />
• 43.1% in 2008;<br />
• 44.0% in 2009<br />
The proporti<strong>on</strong> of female executives receiving promoti<strong>on</strong> has varied as follows:<br />
• 54.7% in 2002;<br />
• 55.6% in 2003;<br />
• 55.8% in 2004;<br />
• 57.1% in 2005;<br />
• 58.1% in 2006;<br />
• 58% in 2007;<br />
• 59% in 2008;<br />

In 2009, at <strong>BNP</strong> <strong>Paribas</strong> in France, 38% of appointments to management positi<strong>on</strong>s (as defined<br />
in the banking industry collective agreement) and executive management positi<strong>on</strong>s (for subsidiaries<br />
not governed by that agreement) were women, compared with 32% in 2008 and 28.5% in 2007. Group in France<br />
