Where an escort is required, e.g. <strong>for</strong> disabled or sick persons, transport costs can be covered<br />

by <strong>IOM</strong> when a statement of willingness to cover costs is provided by the funding agency.<br />

<strong>IOM</strong> can offer its inexpensive flights to any escort.<br />

Transport assistance: travel <strong>for</strong>malities in coordination with partner agencies, baggage allowance<br />

in exceptional cases, and transit assistance. Travel allowance up to EUR 100 per adult<br />

and EUR 50 <strong>for</strong> children under 12 years, if approved by <strong>IOM</strong> prior to departure.<br />

Reintegration grants are provided <strong>for</strong> returns to the countries below:<br />

Serbia and Montenegro (including Kosovo, except minorities), Iran, the Russian Federation,<br />

Sri Lanka, Syria, Turkey, Ukraine, Georgia and FYR of Macedonia: EUR 250 per adult and<br />

EUR 125 per child under 12 years of age (max. EUR 750 per family).<br />

Algeria, Angola, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bangladesh, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, China, DR<br />

Congo, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Ghana, India, Jordan, Lebanon, Liberia, Nepal, Nigeria, Pakistan,<br />

Sierra Leone, Somalia, Togo and Viet Nam: EUR 200 per adult and EUR 100 per child under<br />

12 years of age (max. EUR 600 per family).<br />

Afghanistan, Iraq and Kosovo (minorities): EUR 500 per adult and EUR 250 per child under<br />

12 years of age (max. EUR 1,500 per family).<br />

Persons Eligible <strong>for</strong> the Special Migrants Assistance Programme (SMAP)<br />

Asylum seekers and refugees, as well as their dependants and other persons accompanying<br />

them, who cannot be assisted through the REAG Programme;<br />

Aliens whose application <strong>for</strong> admission to Germany have been rejected;<br />

Ethnic Germans and emigrants of German origin;<br />

Aliens in specially justified cases of need (e.g. when the responsible embassy offers no support);<br />

Foreign workers and students;<br />

Persons who have attained German citizenship and would like to return to their native country;<br />

German employees (teachers and integrated experts, <strong>for</strong> example) and students, emigrants;<br />

Persons in practical training, attending lectures at university, or working as au-pairs;<br />

Staff members of national and international relief organizations or other comparable groups<br />

or persons;<br />

<strong>IOM</strong> can also provide inexpensive air tickets, if necessary, <strong>for</strong> German spouses and children.<br />

Some 10,725 migrants had been assisted under SMAP by the end of 2003.<br />

Programme Services<br />

These included flight arrangement at <strong>IOM</strong>’s special fare prices. Flight costs were covered by the<br />

migrants themselves or any other entity be<strong>for</strong>e departure.<br />

Berlin Occupational Reintegration of Kosovars (BORK)<br />

The aim of the project was to facilitate the return of Kosovars by promoting occupational reintegration.<br />

The project also took into consideration the broader interests of the home communities
