Sustainability of <strong>Return</strong><br />

Among others, sustainable return programmes depended on long-term reintegration activities,<br />

the approach of the individuals concern and economic difficulties and other instabilities<br />

in the country of origin e.g. continued ethnic conflicts;<br />

The most effective tool to achieve durable reintegration proved to professional training of<br />

selected returnees;<br />

Social reconstruction and enhancement of civil society are important <strong>for</strong> creating a conciliatory<br />

and peaceful environment conducive to return.<br />

Lessons Learned and Best Practices<br />

The development of an in<strong>for</strong>mation campaign throughout reception centres to promote<br />

assisted voluntary return, with emphasis on dignified and secure returns;<br />

The elaboration, when necessary, of updated in<strong>for</strong>mation on the conditions in the country of<br />

origin, including security/risk zones;<br />

The designing of training modules <strong>for</strong> civil servants, social workers and cultural mediators<br />

(local administrations, reception centres, Prefecture, Police offices, NGOs, associations, etc.)<br />

on the assisted voluntary return programme;<br />

The importance of providing reintegration grants and monitoring the effectiveness of reintegration<br />

schemes after arrival in close cooperation with <strong>IOM</strong> and local representatives in the<br />

country of origin.
