Movements to Date<br />

(end 2001):<br />

• Asylum seekers whose applications <strong>for</strong> asylum<br />

have been refused;<br />

• Destitute aliens without the financial means to<br />

organize their return.<br />

1,335 migrants have been assisted to return to some<br />

20 countries.<br />

Programme Services<br />

Pre-departure assistance: in<strong>for</strong>mation dissemination and counselling through partner NGOs,<br />

cash grants of US$ 50 per person.<br />

Transport assistance: transport, documents and <strong>for</strong>malities and transit assistance of US$ 5 per<br />

person.<br />

Other support measures are implemented in parallel (e.g. enhanced in<strong>for</strong>mation dissemination,<br />

workshops and capacity building activities <strong>for</strong> government counterparts, partners and social<br />

workers).<br />

A special project <strong>for</strong> the <strong>Return</strong> and Reintegration of Rejected Asylum Seekers and Irregular<br />

Migrants from the Czech Republic to Georgia is currently being implemented as part of a threeyear<br />

programme. It envisages the provision of reintegration assistance (and re-qualification<br />

grants), counselling and referrals to employment opportunities available upon return.<br />

Framework Agreements with Countries of Origin or Transit<br />

<strong>IOM</strong> Prague and the MOI signed an MOU on 26 September 2001. The Ministry, through the<br />

Aliens and Border Police, in<strong>for</strong>ms <strong>IOM</strong> Prague about cases awaiting return in detention or in<br />

asylum centres. NGOs offer AVR on behalf of <strong>IOM</strong> Prague.<br />
