2.4 BEST PRACTICES AND LESSONS LEARNED
There have been some reported cases of individuals re-entering the country following voluntary
departure, which have led to subsequent deportation and to the conclusion that returns were
either not completely voluntary or proved to be unsuitable for the returnee. The general Irish
AVR programme currently offers no financial assistance, because of concerns that it will act as
an incentive to attract other migrants, although other AVR programmes have not reported this
trend. Financial provisions may need to be considered in future to ensure the adequate reintegration
and sustainability of return.
