It is a pleasure to thank those who made this thesis possible. It’s a
really long list.
I am grateful to my ENEA supervisor, Dr. Eng. Carla Minarini
who has supported me with her hints and reflections, encouragement
and a great working environment.

Alfredo Rubino, for the support and the time he spent to give a great
input to my work.
A special thank goes to my Ph.D. School coordinator, Professor
Angelo Marcelli who has been always a source of inspiration and a
good example to me. I am heartily thankful to Dr. Dario della Sala
from ENEA who believed in my capabilities giving me the chance to
