20 <strong>International</strong> <strong>Post</strong> <strong>Guide</strong><br />

�2.5 – Registered <strong>Post</strong> <strong>International</strong><br />

Registered <strong>Post</strong> <strong>International</strong> is an additional security service for letters and documents up to 500 g<br />

only, to almost any address in the world. Refer to Section 6 of this <strong>Post</strong> <strong>Guide</strong> for the countries<br />

served.<br />

�2.5.1 – What the service offers<br />

Registered <strong>Post</strong> <strong>International</strong> offers:<br />

� a single price to the world including envelope, postage and registration<br />

� a unique identification number for each article<br />

� proof of posting when lodged at the counter of an <strong>Australia</strong> <strong>Post</strong> office<br />

� a signed record of delivery in most countries.<br />

�2.5.2 – Prepaid envelopes<br />

Senders must use the special Registered <strong>Post</strong> <strong>International</strong> prepaid envelopes, available in two sizes:<br />

<strong>Australia</strong> <strong>Post</strong> does not accept a Registered <strong>Post</strong> <strong>International</strong> envelope if:<br />

� the envelope is not in sound condition<br />

� the envelope is not securely sealed<br />

� the envelope bears the appearance of having been opened and resealed<br />

� the address is written in pencil or any erasable medium<br />

� the addressee is a set of initials, an acronym or a codename unless the address also contains a<br />

'care of' named addressee.<br />

�2.5.3 – Insertions<br />

No non-letter or non-document insertions of any kind are allowed.<br />

�2.5.4 – Documentation<br />

Senders must complete the declaration on the envelope. No other documentation is required.<br />

�2.5.5 – Lodgement<br />

Senders may lodge Registered <strong>Post</strong> <strong>International</strong> envelopes:<br />

� at any office of <strong>Australia</strong> <strong>Post</strong><br />

� in a street post-box, if proof of posting is not required.<br />

�2.5.6 – Proof of posting<br />

Senders who require proof of posting must lodge a Registered <strong>Post</strong> <strong>International</strong> article at an office<br />

of <strong>Australia</strong> <strong>Post</strong>. They receive a postmarked receipt.<br />

�2.5.7 – Proof of delivery<br />

In most countries, the person accepting delivery signs for the article. The delivery office retains the<br />

record for 6 months. In some countries, the office records the delivery but obtains no signature.<br />

�2.5.8 – Supplementary services<br />

The <strong>International</strong> Delivery Confirmation service is available with Registered <strong>Post</strong> <strong>International</strong> for an<br />

additional fee – refer to �3.2 – <strong>International</strong> Delivery Confirmation. The <strong>International</strong> Extra Cover<br />

service is not available.<br />

�2.5.9 – Compensation<br />

The maximum compensation payable under <strong>Australia</strong> <strong>Post</strong> Terms and Conditions for a Registered<br />

<strong>Post</strong> <strong>International</strong> article is $100. Refer to �5.15 – <strong>International</strong> Compensation claims.<br />
