�5.8 – Prohibitions<br />

Certain items must not be posted in the <strong>International</strong> <strong>Post</strong>. The prohibitions are in three<br />

categories:<br />

1 items prohibited by the Dangerous and Prohibited Goods & Packaging <strong>Post</strong> <strong>Guide</strong> (8833729)<br />

2 items prohibited by ECIand EPI - Parcels Terms and Conditions in addition to those in<br />

Category 1<br />

3 items prohibited by each individual destination country in addition to those in Categories 1 and 2.<br />

�5.8.1 – Dangerous and Prohibited Goods & Packaging <strong>Post</strong> <strong>Guide</strong><br />

The Dangerous and Prohibited Goods & Packaging <strong>Post</strong> <strong>Guide</strong> prohibits items in nine classes. Each<br />

class is illustrated below with some examples of common substances that fall (or might fall) into the<br />

class. If you have any doubts about a particular substance, consult the Dangerous and Prohibited<br />

Goods & Packaging <strong>Post</strong> <strong>Guide</strong> (8833729) or enquire at your local post office for more details.<br />

Class 1 – Explosives<br />

Ammunition Fireworks Igniters.<br />

Class 2 – Compressed gas – flammable and non-flammable<br />

Aerosol products Carbon dioxide gas Cigarette lighters, butane.<br />

Class 3 – Flammable liquids<br />

Alcohol Flammable paint and thinners Flammable varnish removers.<br />

Class 4 – Flammable solids<br />

Magnesium, metallic Matches of all kinds Zinc powder.<br />

Class 5 – Oxidising material<br />

Adhesives, some<br />

Bleaching powders, some<br />

Dyes, hair or textile, made of<br />

organic peroxides<br />

Fibreglass repair kits.<br />

Class 6 – Poisons, including drugs and medicines<br />

Exceptionally, <strong>Australia</strong> <strong>Post</strong> accepts drugs and medicines in prescription quantities and noninfectious<br />

perishable biological substances when packed and transmitted in the prescribed manner.<br />

Class 7 – Radioactive materials<br />

Class 8 – Corrosives<br />

Cleaning liquids, corrosive Paint or varnish removers Thermometers, mercury filled.<br />

of explosives, ammunition, Magnetised materials<br />

grenades, mortar shells or<br />

Prohibition of bullion, bank notes and coins<br />

<strong>Australia</strong> <strong>Post</strong> prohibits bullion, bank notes and coins in all international postal articles – this<br />

includes:<br />

� all <strong>Australia</strong>n notes of whatever issue or denomination;<br />

� bank notes or currency notes of any other country<br />

� coins of either <strong>Australia</strong> or foreign currency; and<br />

� coins made from precious metals whether or not such coins have a denomination.<br />

This prohibition applies even if the destination country accepts valuables.
