�5.16.3 – Who may claim<br />

The claimant is the person with the sole right to claim Extra Cover. The claimant is either the sender<br />

of the <strong>International</strong> <strong>Post</strong> article with Extra Cover or the addressee. The table identifies the claimant,<br />

depending on the service, the original place of lodgement, and the type of claim. It also identifies<br />

the postal administration with which the claimant should lodge the claim.<br />

Waiver of right to claim<br />

Except for ECI and EPI - Parcels service, the claimant may waive the right to claim <strong>International</strong><br />

Extra Cover in favour of another person. The claimant must send written notification of the waiver<br />

to the relevant postal administration.<br />

�5.16.4 – How and when to claim<br />

Claimants must complete a claim form, available at any office of <strong>Australia</strong> <strong>Post</strong>, within 6 months of<br />

the lodgement date of the article, or 30 days in the case of ECI or EPI Parcels service. <strong>Australia</strong><br />

<strong>Post</strong> may require support for the information in the claim form with a statutory declaration and<br />

proof of identity.<br />

�5.16.5 – Claims for total loss<br />

The lodgement receipt is required to support all <strong>International</strong> Extra Cover claims for total loss.<br />

�5.16.6 – Claims for missing or damaged contents<br />

Addressees in <strong>Australia</strong> who receive insured articles with missing or damaged contents should inform<br />

<strong>Australia</strong> <strong>Post</strong> immediately. They must present the article, including all wrapping and packaging, for<br />

inspection. This requirement applies even if the addressee is not the claimant.<br />

<strong>Australia</strong>n senders of articles with Extra Cover should inform the addressees that <strong>Australia</strong> <strong>Post</strong> does<br />

not pay Extra Cover for missing or damaged contents unless the overseas postal administration can<br />

confirm the loss or damage by inspection.<br />

�5.16.7 – <strong>Post</strong>age refunds<br />

When paying an <strong>International</strong> Extra Cover claim, <strong>Australia</strong> <strong>Post</strong> refunds to the claimant the value of<br />

the postage paid, excluding any Extra Cover fee.<br />
