2 Preparation<br />

Attaching the BC-65 battery pack<br />

Before you attach the battery pack, clear any dust or other foreign particles from the<br />

battery socket.<br />

1. Fit the two projections at the bottom of<br />

the battery pack into the concave sections<br />

at the bottom of the socket on the<br />

instrument.<br />

2. Hold the instrument steady with one hand<br />

and push the battery pack against the<br />

instrument.<br />

3. Make sure that the battery mounting<br />

button is securely locked.<br />

Caution<br />

– If the battery pack is not attached securely, this could adversely<br />

affect the watertightness of the instrument.<br />

Note – An external battery is available as an optional accessory for s. When the<br />

external battery is connected and the BC-65 battery pack is mounted on the<br />

instrument, the instrument automatically uses the power source that has the most<br />

available power.<br />

Setting Up the Tripod 2.1<br />

Caution<br />

– The tops of the tripod ferrules are very sharp. When handling or<br />

carrying the tripod, take care to avoid injuring yourself on the ferrules.<br />

1. Open the tripod legs enough to for the instrument to be stable.<br />

2. Locate the tripod directly over the station point. To check the tripod’s position,<br />

look through the center hole in the tripod head.<br />

3. Firmly press the tripod ferrules into the ground.<br />

4. Level the top surface of the tripod head.<br />

Note – If you want to use the plumb bob to center the instrument (see Centering,<br />

page 15), you must level the tripod head precisely.<br />

5. Securely fasten the thumb screws on the tripod legs.<br />

6. Place the instrument on the tripod head.<br />
