Ministry of Culture (Republic of Slovenia): Subventions<br />

for Translators<br />

Every year the Ministry of Culture publishes a call for applications which includes the subventions for translators of Slovenian<br />

literature: www.kultura.gov.si<br />

1. Call for application includes:<br />

Translators working on translations of Slovenian authors into foreign languages in the field of:<br />

• Fiction, poetry, essays and reviews covering the field of culture<br />

• Works for children and young readers<br />

• Theoretical texts in humanities, particularly on fiction, poetry, art and culture.<br />

2. Special terms:<br />

Translators can apply for the subventions if they<br />

• Have translated into foreign language at least 1 book from the described fields or at least 20 sheets of texts from those<br />

fields<br />

• Will translate the whole book in one year<br />

• Enclose a written confirmation of the publisher about publication of the book in the next year.<br />

3. Priority criteria:<br />

• Recognition and respectability of the foreign publisher of the work<br />

• References of the translator in the field of translating from Slovenian into foreign language.<br />

4. Obligatory supplements:<br />

1. Agreement or a contract between the translator and the publisher that determines the date of publishing in the next<br />

year.<br />

2. For the translators who are not the citizens of the Republic of Slovenia: the copy of a passport that shows the country in<br />

which the translator is registered; and the statement of authorization to the Ministry for the acquirement of a tax number<br />

in the Republic of Slovenia.<br />
