(MERAF) for the Base Metals Smelting Sector - CCME

There are two air emission standards that have been promulgated that apply to
the Base Metals Smelting Sector:
• Hazardous Air Pollutants for Primary Lead Smelting (Table 30)
• Inorganic Arsenic Emissions from Primary Copper Smelters (Table 31)
The EPA also limits arsenic emissions by controlling emissions of particulate
matter.

The lead compound emission
limit is a surrogate for all metal
HAP's and will apply to both
existing and new sources.
Requires that the charging,
tapping, and sinter handling
sources identified above (items 4
through 8) be equipped with a
hood ventilated to a control
device.
Each primary lead smelter would
be required to develop a
Standard Operating Procedures
(SOP) manual for fugitive dust
sources that details procedures
to limit fugitive dust emissions.
