4.2.5. Japan
Environmental quality standards in Japan are defined in the Basic Law for
Environmental Pollution Control 140 . They define the pollutant levels aimed at
protecting health and the environment from ambient pollutants. Table 42 shows
Japan Ambient Air Quality Standards.

The Air Pollution Control Law regulates (Table 43) the releases of pollutants. All
standards in this law were set to meet the environmental quality standards.
