The guidelines indicate that the target pollutant load for lead and zinc smelting
operations for particulate matter is 0.5 kg / t of concentrated ore processed.
The guidelines indicate that the double contact double adsorption plants should
emit no more than 2 kg of sulphur dioxide per ton of sulphuric acid produced
(based on a conversion efficiency of 99.7%). This value is inconsistent with the
value of 0.2 kg/t sulphuric acid as indicated for copper smelting. Clarification
from the World Bank has been received and the correct value should be 0.2
kg/ton acid.

There is a printing error in the World Bank publication. The same section on
nickel smelting also indicates that “double contact double adsorption plants
should emit no more than 0.2 kg of sulphur dioxide per ton of sulphuric acid
produced (based on a conversion efficiency of 99.7%).” Clarification from the
World Bank has been received and the correct value should be 0.2 kg/ton
acid 135 .
