Hadas Shoshanna<br />
Morvai (after her marriage: Vadász) Zsuzsa<br />
Born in Makó on 17.10.1922<br />
Member of “Hashomer Hatzair”<br />
Shoshanna joined the movement in her hometown in 1929. She<br />
graduated from high school in 1940 <strong>and</strong> travelled to Budapest. In 1941<br />
she stayed in a hahshara. In 1942 Shoshanna gave assistance to<br />
refugees, comrades from the movement that arrived from Slovakia. In<br />
cunning ways she obtained authentic documents <strong>for</strong> them. Shoshanna<br />
was active in the hostel <strong>for</strong> youngsters on Zöldmáli Street where young<br />
refugees also found refuge. After the German invasion of Hungary on<br />
19.3.1944, upon her parents’ request, she travelled to see them but was<br />
caught, arrested <strong>and</strong> taken to the Strasshof camp <strong>and</strong> from there to<br />
Theresienstadt. After the war Shoshanna returned to Budapest <strong>and</strong><br />
worked in a children’s boarding school where Jewish children, who during<br />
the war had found refuge with Christian families or in convents, were<br />
gathered. Shoshanna made aliya in 1950 with her husb<strong>and</strong> Miklós <strong>and</strong><br />
her son Gabriel.<br />
Hakohen Hillel<br />
Born in Komárom (Komárno) on 2.5.1925<br />
Died in Israel in 2003<br />

Hillel joined the movement in 1936 <strong>and</strong> in 1942 he moved to Budapest.<br />
After the Germans occupied Hungary on 19.3.1944, he <strong>and</strong> another three<br />
comrades were sent to South Transylvania in order to open a new route<br />
<strong>for</strong> the tiyul to Romania in the direction of the city of Brassó (Brašov)<br />
beyond the Hungarian border. They were all caught. Hillel was<br />
transferred to Debrecen <strong>and</strong> put into a wagon whose destination was<br />
Auschwitz. When the train reached Slovakia, he <strong>and</strong> some of his friends<br />
managed to escape by jumping off the train. Hillel reached the town of<br />
Eperjes (Prešov), made contact with comrades from his movement <strong>and</strong><br />
traveled to Bratislava. Ten of Hillel’s comrades who escaped with him<br />
were caught <strong>and</strong> executed.<br />
In August 1944 the Germans entered Slovakia in order to crush the<br />
rebellion that erupted in the Banská Bystrica area. Hillel Hakohen joined<br />
the partisans <strong>and</strong>, with the outbreak of the Slovak uprising, fought with<br />
the paratroopers who arrived from Eretz Israel (Palestine) <strong>and</strong> among<br />
them Haviva Reick.<br />
