November 1944 Amir organized a refuge <strong>for</strong> activists of the movement in<br />

a residential building <strong>and</strong> the defense of the house by men who had<br />

escaped from <strong>for</strong>ced labour units.<br />

After the war Amir took part in the organization of the B'riha mainly on the<br />

Hungarian-Romanian border.<br />

In 1948 he made aliya, served in the IDF <strong>and</strong> later in the police <strong>for</strong>ce from<br />

which he was discharged in 1979 with the rank of Brigadier General Amir<br />

died in Israel.<br />

Born in Nagymegyer (Vel’ký Meder) in 18.6.1923<br />

Member of “Hashomer Hatzair”<br />

Joseph studied in Bratislava <strong>and</strong> Moravská Ostrava. He joined<br />

“Hashomer Hatzair” in childhood. In 1943 he was conscripted into the<br />

Hungarian army <strong>and</strong> later into a <strong>for</strong>ced labour unit. Towards the end of<br />

the war he was transferred to Germany, escaped <strong>and</strong> arrived at the<br />

“Glass House” on Vadász Street in Budapest. In the underground Joseph<br />

dealt with organization <strong>and</strong> defense, safeguarding the weapons <strong>and</strong> their<br />

distribution in case the place were attacked. Joseph also prepared lists of<br />

Protection Documents <strong>and</strong> their distribution. After the liberation he was<br />

active in the children’s houses that were set up in order to rehabilitate the<br />

children <strong>and</strong> to prepare them <strong>for</strong> aliya. Joseph dealt with illegal aliya <strong>and</strong><br />

escorted groups of Jews from Hungary to Romania. He made aliya <strong>and</strong><br />

resides in Ramat Gan.<br />

Efrati Tzvi<br />

Born in the town of Hajdunánás in 1923<br />

Died in 1991 in Israel<br />

Member of “Hashomer Hatzair”<br />

Tzvi was born in a Jewish Orthodox family. In 1927 his family moved to<br />

the city of Debrecen <strong>and</strong> in 1933 they moved to Budapest, where he<br />

studied at the Jewish high school. In 1944 he was enlisted in a <strong>for</strong>ced<br />

labor unit, escaped <strong>and</strong> found refuge in the “Glass House” on Vadász<br />

Street. He supplied food <strong>and</strong> <strong>for</strong>ged documents. After the liberation he<br />

joined Kibbutz Ehad BeMay <strong>and</strong> made aliya illegally on the vessel<br />

“Knesset Israel” that was intercepted by the British <strong>and</strong> he was sent to<br />

Cyprus. During a struggle with British soldiers he was wounded in the<br />

head.<br />

He arrived in Eretz Israel (Palestine)in 1947 <strong>and</strong> in 1948, together with<br />

his friends, he founded Kibbutz Ga’aton. He worked as a nurse in a<br />

hospital.<br />
