On 20.4.1944 Asher was deported to Auschwitz.<br />

After the liberation he returned to Budapest <strong>and</strong> was chosen as a<br />

member of the movement’s central committee <strong>and</strong> sent to the Carpatho-<br />

Ruthenia region to work with the Jewish youths, bring them to Budapest<br />

<strong>and</strong> prepare them <strong>for</strong> aliya. In Budapest he trained olim, organized a<br />

seminar in Yiddish <strong>and</strong> was also one of the lecturers.<br />

On 9.7.1945 Asher made aliya with his family on the “Exodus” ship. He<br />

lived <strong>for</strong> a short period of time on a kibbutz but later became one of the<br />

founders of Moshav Omer.<br />

Asher wrote a book: “Aviv Aharon” (The Last Spring) about Máramaros<br />

Jewry.<br />

Einhorn Menahem<br />

Born in Irhóc (Vilhivci) on 2.10.1920<br />

Died on 20.11.2000 in Israel<br />

Member of “Dror Habonim”<br />

In February-March 1944 Menahem dug bunkers in the Máramaros<br />

district with the “Dror Habonim” group.<br />

He made aliya <strong>and</strong> died in Israel.<br />

Eisenberg Hava (Weisz)<br />

Gábor Éva<br />

Born in Békéscsaba on 25.10.1923<br />

Member of “Hanoar Hatzioni”<br />

Hava joined the movement in 1943. In 1944 she was released from a<br />

<strong>for</strong>ced labor camp <strong>and</strong> arrived in Budapest. Together with Mordehai<br />

Weisz she distributed Protection Documents, found locations <strong>for</strong> bunkers<br />

<strong>and</strong> was sent on various missions on behalf of the underground. Hava<br />

was liberated while staying in the “Glass House” <strong>and</strong> married Mordehai<br />

Weisz.<br />

She made aliya in 1947. Hava worked with the Committee <strong>for</strong> Atomic<br />

Energy in Nahal Sorek <strong>and</strong> in the Israeli Embassy in Washington. She<br />

resides in Herzliya.<br />
