Born in Budapest on 14.7.1923<br />
Member of “Hashomer Hatzair”<br />
Efraim was an only child. In 1939 he joined “Maccabi Hatzair” but a year<br />
later he became a member of “Hashomer Hatzair” with a group of friends.<br />
In 1941, after graduating from high school, he learned construction<br />
locksmith’s work. After completing his studies he worked as a<br />
professional locksmith. In December 1943 Ephraim was enlisted in the<br />
movement’s activities.<br />
On 19.3.1944, the day the Germans invaded Hungary, he was staying in<br />
Budapest on sick leave. Following the instructions from the movement he<br />
went underground equipped with <strong>for</strong>ged documents. He was sent on<br />
missions to the country towns of Debrecen, Nyirbátor, Nyíregyháza,<br />
Kisvárda, Miskolc <strong>and</strong> some others in order to deliver Aryan documents<br />
<strong>and</strong> money to the local Jews, give them instructions on how to escape<br />
<strong>and</strong> in<strong>for</strong>mation on what was happening.<br />
At the beginning of June 1944, following instructions from Moshe Alpan,<br />
Efraim crossed the border into Romania near the town of Nagyvárad<br />
(Oradea). He arrived in Eretz Israel (Palestine) with his wife Tzipora on<br />
4.11.1944. He joined Kibbutz Negba <strong>and</strong> was one of the founders of<br />
Kibbutz Yehiam.<br />
In 1959 he left the kibbutz, worked <strong>for</strong> the Ministry of Agriculture <strong>and</strong> later<br />
worked independently. He lives in Tel-Aviv. Efraim was among the active<br />
members of the Society <strong>for</strong> Research of the History of the Zionist Youth<br />
Movements in Hungary.<br />

Tzipora joined the movement at the age of ten. She learned sewing. In<br />
1943 she moved to Budapest, earned a living <strong>and</strong> became a member of a<br />
group of adults <strong>and</strong> among them Efra, her future husb<strong>and</strong>. After the<br />
Germans occupied Hungary on 19.3.1944, she equipped herself with<br />
Aryan documents <strong>and</strong>, following instructions from the movement, went<br />
underground. She rented an apartment with Ephra passing <strong>for</strong> fugitives<br />
from country towns fearing the approach of the Red Army. Tzipora went<br />
