Asael Tzvi<br />

Auslaender Herman ‘Nagy Oszi’<br />

Born in Ungvár (Uzshorod) on 21.12.1919<br />

Died on 21.10.1991 in Israel<br />

Member of “Bnei Akiva”<br />

Tzvi was active in the “Bnei Akiva” ken in his town. He was among the<br />

first students of the Jewish high school in Ungvár. In 1941 he went to a<br />

hahshara in Budapest. In 1943 Tzvi was enlisted in a <strong>for</strong>ced labor unit<br />

<strong>and</strong> wounded. In 1944 he escaped. Tzvi was an underground activist. He<br />

arrived in Arad, in Romania. In 1945 Tzvi was a member of the central<br />

leadership of his movement.<br />

He made aliya. He was a high official in the religious department of the<br />

Jewish Agency. Tzvi went on various missions abroad <strong>for</strong> the Jewish<br />

Agency.<br />

Atsmon Hanna<br />

Neuwirth Lili<br />

Born in Nagymegyer (Vel’ký Meder) in 1921<br />

Member of “Maccabi Hatzair”<br />

Hanna was active in bringing Jewish refugees from Slovakia to Budapest.<br />

She provided them with accommodation, basic equipment <strong>and</strong> money.<br />

After the German invasion of Hungary on 19.3.1944, Hanna visited <strong>for</strong>ced<br />

labor camps <strong>and</strong> brought <strong>for</strong>ged documents <strong>and</strong> money to her comrades<br />

from the movement so they could escape. After May 1944 Hanna took<br />

part in the tiyul operation <strong>and</strong> within this framework she escorted groups<br />

to Oradea (Nagyvárad). She managed to cross the border <strong>and</strong> join her<br />

husb<strong>and</strong> who was already in Romania <strong>and</strong> from there too she helped<br />

refugees.<br />

Hanna made aliya <strong>and</strong> joined Kibbutz Metzuba where she is still a<br />

member.<br />
