few times by Arrow Cross men but always managed to escape. During<br />

the German occupation he operated wearing the uni<strong>for</strong>m of an officer of<br />

the Hungarian army. As member of the “Kiska” unit, Itzhak was in charge<br />

of the security of the movement’s underground activities. In 1946 he<br />

made aliya. He died during a visit to Budapest.<br />

Zarhi Judith<br />

Member of “Maccabi Hatzair”<br />

Judith lived in Budapest <strong>and</strong> distributed <strong>for</strong>ged documents. She was<br />

active in the “Glass House” on Vadász Street. After the liberation she<br />

took care of children who had survived the Holocaust. She accompanied<br />

them to Marseille on their way to Eretz Israel (Palestine). Judith made<br />

aliya. She is a member of Kfar Hahoresh. She held positions in the<br />

education system of her kibbutz <strong>and</strong> at the Oranim Seminary.<br />

Zimmerman Dan<br />

Died on 28.8.2008 in Israel<br />

Member of “Hashomer Hatzair”<br />

Shortly after he was born, Dan’s family moved to Slovakia. He studied at<br />

German <strong>and</strong> Slovak schools. In 1939 he joined the “Hashomer Hatzair”<br />

movement. In 1942, with his wife Hanna, he moved to Hungary. He dealt<br />

with the <strong>for</strong>gery of documents. In June 1944 he moved to Romania,<br />

stayed <strong>for</strong> about two months in Arad in order to organize the reception of<br />

the tiyul fugitives from the other side of the border.<br />

Dan made aliya in August 1944 <strong>and</strong> joined Kibbutz Ha’ogen. In 1949,<br />

while serving in the IDF, he became blind after an explosion that occurred<br />

during an experiment with explosives. Being blind, Dan studied chemistry<br />

in the USA. He was the manager of the laboratory in “Ha’ogenplast”, a<br />

rubber factory in his kibbutz <strong>and</strong> served as the manager of the rubber<br />

institute of the Technion.<br />

Dan resides in Ra’anana.<br />
