Shaanan Haim<br />

Stern Heni<br />

Born in Érsekújvár (Nové Zámky) in 1922<br />

Member of “Maccabi Hatzair”<br />

Haim took part in his movement’s hahshara. In September 1943 he was<br />

enlisted in a <strong>for</strong>ced labor unit, ran away <strong>and</strong> arrived in the movement’s<br />

bunker in Hüvösvölgy, in the hilly part of Budapest. Haim was caught due<br />

to an in<strong>for</strong>mer, incarcerated in the military prison on Margit Boulevard,<br />

interrogated <strong>and</strong> tortured. He was liberated on 25.12.1944 in a daring<br />

operation of the Zionist underground <strong>and</strong> arrived at the branch of the<br />

Swiss consulate on Wekerle Street <strong>and</strong> from there he moved to Vadász<br />

Street. Haim made aliya. He is a member of Kfar Hahoresh.<br />

Shahar Lea<br />

Weisz Lya<br />

Born on 28.6.1928 in Hollósarka (Capu Corbulum)<br />

Died on 6.3.2007 in Israel<br />

Member of “Dror Habonim”<br />

Lea prepared documents <strong>for</strong> the refugees who arrived in her town. As<br />

she spoke Romanian, she helped the Jews in the framework of the tiyul.<br />

Lea herself crossed the border <strong>and</strong> arrived in Eretz Israel (Palestine).<br />

She is a member of Kibbutz Dovrat.<br />
