personality Raphael made connections with the Romanian authorities so<br />
that the absorption of the refugees would be carried out as planned <strong>and</strong><br />
he encouraged the Jews of Arad to help the fugitives. Thanks to the<br />
escape operation thous<strong>and</strong>s of Jews arrived in Romania <strong>and</strong> from there<br />
they continued their journey to Eretz Israel (Palestine). After the war<br />
Raphael engaged in giving assistance to the remains of the Jewish<br />
communities in Transylvania. In 1945 <strong>and</strong> 1946 he lived in Hungary <strong>and</strong><br />
again helped refugees to reach Eretz Israel (Palestine).<br />
Raphael made aliya in 1947. He lived in Bnei Brak.<br />

When Lea was one year old, her family moved to Budapest. In 1943 she<br />
joined the movement. After the Germans invaded Hungary on 19.3.1944,<br />
Lea operated under a false name within the framework of the Zionist<br />
underground. She engaged in obtaining authentic Aryan documents from<br />
the offices of the Population Registry in Budapest. With Márta Révész<br />
(Weisz) she managed to find accommodation in a hostel <strong>for</strong> girls who<br />
were members of the Arrow Cross Party <strong>and</strong> to steal documents from<br />
there. Their identity was discovered but they managed to escape. Lea<br />
stayed at the “Glass House” on 29, Vadász Street. After the liberation she<br />
completed her matriculation examinations. In 1949 Lea made aliya. She<br />
joined Kibbutz Mavki’im <strong>and</strong> married Yeshayahu-Sajó Rosenblum. In<br />
1951 they left the kibbutz. Lea worked as a teacher. She resides in Tel-<br />
Aviv.<br />

Yeshayahu’s parents came from Pol<strong>and</strong>. In 1933 the family moved to<br />
Budapest. In 1938 Yeshayahu joined the movement. He engaged in<br />
obtaining <strong>for</strong>ged Aryan documents, the planning of bunkers <strong>and</strong> getting<br />
hold of army uni<strong>for</strong>ms. In the first month of 1944 He travelled to Northern<br />
Hungary in order to warn the local Jews of what lay in store <strong>for</strong> them from<br />
the fascists <strong>and</strong> to recruit the young Jews to his movement. He was a<br />
liaison person <strong>for</strong> the underground activists.<br />
