After the liberation in January 1945, Ella travelled to Slovakia on a<br />
mission <strong>for</strong> the movement as a clerk of the new Slovak government. In<br />
Kassa (Košice) she took care of Jews who returned from concentration<br />
camps. From April of the same year she operated in Pozsony (Bratislava)<br />
assisting refugees. Ella made aliya in 1949. In 1952 she married Andrew<br />
Foltyn <strong>and</strong> emigrated to the USA.<br />

Ya’akov became a member of the movement in the late 1930’s. After the<br />
Germans invaded Hungary on 19.3.1944, he set up a hiding place in his<br />
town’s ghetto where he hid <strong>for</strong> three months. When he left his hiding<br />
place, he was caught, moved to Beregszász (Berehove) <strong>and</strong> then to the<br />
Mosonyi prison in Budapest. He was freed <strong>and</strong> arrived in the “Glass<br />
House”. Ya’akov joined the underground activities <strong>and</strong> distributed <strong>for</strong>ged<br />
documents. After the liberation he was sent to Transylvania in order to<br />
rehabilitate the movement.<br />
Ya’akov made aliya <strong>and</strong> joined Kibbutz Ga’aton.<br />

Member of Hanoar Hatzioni<br />
A member of "Hanoar Hatzioni" from her youth, in 1941 Vera joined her<br />
movement's "hahshara". After the Germans invaded Hungary (19.3.1944)<br />
she moved to a hiding place in the district of Zugló, from which she<br />
distributed <strong>for</strong>ged Aryan papers.<br />
That hiding place was discovered. Sigfrid Roth <strong>and</strong> Leon Blatt, the<br />
leaders of Hanoar Hatzioni were in charge of that underground activity.<br />
Vera <strong>and</strong> her comerades were taken by the Gestapo to Svábhegy <strong>for</strong><br />
interrogation. Vera was deported to Auschwitz <strong>and</strong> from there to other<br />
concentration camps, but survived. Upon her return to Hungary, she<br />
restored her life <strong>and</strong> studied in a Budapest university philosophy <strong>and</strong><br />
psychology. In 1956 Vera moved from Hungary to Engl<strong>and</strong>, where she<br />
worked as a psychologist in a hospital <strong>and</strong> as a lecturer in the University<br />
of Leicester.At present Vera lives in Engl<strong>and</strong>.<br />
