Member of “Bnei Akiva”
In 1943 Miriam and her husband Dov moved to Hungary. She took part in
the underground activities. Miriam returned to Slovakia to visit her
parents, was caught and sent back to Hungary.
She made aliya. She worked as a nurse.
Tzur Haim
Burger Endre
Born in Nagymihályi (Michalovce) on 8.11.1923
Member of “Hashomer Hatzair”
Haim arrived in Budapest in 1941. He gave assistance to refugees
arriving from Slovakia. He was caught and deported back to Slovakia but
succeeded in returning to Budapest.
After the Germans invaded Hungary on 19.3.1944, Haim was caught
again and imprisoned in the detention camp in Kistarcsa. He escaped
and, in June 1944, managed to cross the border into Romania within the
framework of the tiyul together with a group of friends. In Romania Haim
was caught again but managed to get free.
In November 1944 he arrived in Eretz Israel (Palestine). He was a
member of the garin of the hahshara in Kibbutz Negba and from 1946 to
1960 was a member of Kibbutz Yehiam.
He is married to Lea Tzur and lives in Givatayim.
Tzur Lea
Wertheimer Olga
Born in Hajdúsámson on 19.10.1925
Member of “Hashomer Hatzair”
Lea joined the movement in 1939. After the Germans invaded Hungary
on 19.3.1944, she was rescued from Debrecen by Haim Golan
(Fettmann), an emissary from the movement, together with another four
girls. She took part in rescue operations equipped with forged
documents. She traveled mainly between Debrecen and Budapest and
moved house in
