Ya’akov participated in the International Council of “Hashomer Hatzair”<br />

that took place on 31.12.1943 in Vágújhely (Nové Mesto nad Váhom).<br />

According to the decision of the council, in 1944 prior to the German<br />

invasion, Ya’akov made aliya with Yoshko Baumer, via Hungary, using an<br />

authentic certificate. He joined Kibbutz Ha’ogen. Ya’akov married Haika<br />

Klinger, a member of the movement <strong>and</strong> a refugee from Pol<strong>and</strong>. Ya’akov<br />

left the kibbutz. He resides in Moshav Sde Nitzan.<br />

Died in 1984 in Israel<br />

Member of “Dror Habonim”<br />

In 1942 Moshe moved to Budapest <strong>and</strong> joined “Hehalutz Hatzair” which<br />

later became “Dror Habonim”. In January <strong>and</strong> February 1944 he shared<br />

an apartment with his brother, Shmuel, <strong>and</strong> other comrades. Together<br />

they planned resistance <strong>and</strong> rescue operations. After the Germans<br />

invaded Hungary on 19.3.1944, Moshe was sent to the Carpatho-<br />

Ruthenia region to rescue comrades with the help of <strong>for</strong>ged documents.<br />

When he returned to Budapest, Moshe became active in the<br />

underground. He left Hungary on the train of the Relief <strong>and</strong> <strong>Rescue</strong><br />

Committee. He made aliya <strong>and</strong> worked in the Israel Military Industries.<br />

Rabbi Dr. Rosenbaum Pinhas<br />

Died in Geneva in 1985<br />

Member of “Bnei Akiva”<br />

Pinhas was the offspring of an outst<strong>and</strong>ing family of rabbis. His father<br />

was the last rabbi in his town. His whole family perished in Auschwitz.<br />

Pinhas studied in a yeshiva in Ungvár (Uzshorod) <strong>and</strong> in other places. He<br />

studied at universities in Austria <strong>and</strong> Germany <strong>and</strong> got a doctorate in<br />

political science <strong>and</strong> law. Pinhas was a member of the Zionist executive<br />

committee on behalf of “Hapoel Hamizrahi”. In 1943 he joined the “Bnei<br />

Akiva” movement. He was enlisted in a <strong>for</strong>ced labor unit, ran away <strong>and</strong><br />

arrived in Budapest. After the German invasion on 19.3.1944, Pinhas<br />

became one of the leaders of the"Bnei Akiva" movement. He operated in<br />

the “Glass House” on Vadász Street. Donning the Hungarian fascist<br />

Arrow Cross uni<strong>for</strong>m he liberated Jews from the Yellow Star Houses <strong>and</strong><br />

the Death March. After the liberation Pinhas served <strong>for</strong> some time as<br />

rabbi in Kisvárda. He was active in the revival of his movement, a<br />

<strong>Brothers</strong> <strong>for</strong> <strong>Resistance</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>Rescue</strong> 201
