was released in a daring exploit carried out by his comrades in the
Underground. After liberation, he initiated the posting of a memorial
plaque for the paratrooper Hanna Szenes, on the backyard of the Dohány
Street synagogue.Involved in the field of education, Avraham Karni made
aliya in 1946 and lived in a kibbutz. He passed away after a long-lasting
illness.

Born in Kassa (Košice) in 1928
Member of “Hashomer Hatzair”
Klári arrived in Budapest in 1944 and at once integrated the underground
activities. She made contact with the non-Jewish anti-fascist movement.
Her underground name was Niederführer Anna Mária. She was the
liaison between the “Glass House” and the members operating in the
underground and also transferred forged Swiss Protection Documents.
After the liberation she took part in various activities for the movement.
Klári made aliya in 1947 and took part in the defense of Kibbutz Ma’anit.
As a member of the “Ehad BeMay” garin she was among the founders of
Kibbutz Yassur. She married Baruh Karni and moved to Kibbutz
Hama’apil.

Born in Kolozsvár (Cluj) in 1906
Murdered in Israel in 1957
Member of “Ihud Mapai”
Israel studied at the Jewish high school and at university in the
Department of Law in his hometown. He joined the “Barissia” Zionist
youth movement. Israel started working as a journalist in the “Új Kelet”
(New East) Jewish newspaper. In 1937 he married Elizabeth (Bogyó)
Fischer. In September 1940 Transylvania was divided between Romania
and Hungary. The city of Kolozsvár was given to Hungary. Anti-Jewish
measures started and the “Új Kelet” newspaper was closed down.
Kasztner moved to Budapest and became one of the prominent activists
of the Zionist movement, ”Ihud Mapai” and of the Relief and Rescue
Committee.
Immediately after the Germans invaded Hungary on 19.3.1944, hard
measures were imposed on the Jews and soon the deportations and
