Sandak Sarah

In 1939, together with her brother, Shimon, Sarah joined the hahshara in
Izbék. Her brother died in a work accident in the nearby quarry. Sarah
helped refugees, members of her movement that arrived in Budapest.
She provided food and food coupons for them and even accommodated
some of them in her house. She obtained authentic documents from the
Population Registry.
Sarah made aliya after the liberation of Hungary and joined Kibbutz
Yassur. Later she left the kibbutz and lived in Ra’anana.
Sas Dov
Born in Kassa (Košice) in 1922
Fell in 1944
Member of “Hashomer Hatzair”
Dov was a member of the ken’s leadership in his hometown. He was
enlisted in a forced labor unit and sent to Ukraine. He managed to cross
the enemy lines and joined the Red Army. He fell in battle in 1944.
Schamschula Katalin

Born in Budapest on 29.3.1926
Died in 2003 in Australia
Member of “Hanoar Hatzioni”
In 1938 Katalin joined the “Hanoar Hatzioni” movement. Her family gave
assistance to the first refugees from Poland. After the Germans invaded
Hungary on 19.3.1944, Katalin was taken to Tattersaal (Todt Lager). In
Dinnyés Borgonpuszta, rescued by members of her movement and
arrived at the “Glass House” on Vadász Street. Under the name of
Horváth Katalin, Katalin distributed forged documents around the city.
After the liberation she intended to make aliya and arrived in Romania
but, due to an illness, she was forced to return to Budapest. In 1949
Katalin left Hungary. She lived in Sydney, Australia where she died.
