Heffner-Reiner Dézi<br />
Born in Budapest on 10.1.1927<br />
Member of “Dror Habonim”<br />
At the age of twelve Dézi was a member of “Maccabi Hatzair” <strong>and</strong> later<br />
joined the “Habonim” movement. She assisted refugees from Pol<strong>and</strong> who<br />
found a hiding place in her family house on 45, Hársfa Street in Budapest<br />
be<strong>for</strong>e moving to another place or leaving <strong>for</strong> Romania. Dézi obtained<br />
documents from the offices of the Hungarian Population Registry. She<br />
was sent to the Gestapo headquarters in Buda in order to help the<br />
prisoners there. Dézi was also sent to country towns in order to find<br />
hiding places in case there was a need <strong>for</strong> them. She left Hungary on the<br />
train of the Relief <strong>and</strong> <strong>Rescue</strong> Committee to Bergen-Belsen <strong>and</strong> from<br />
there to Switzerl<strong>and</strong>.<br />
Dézi made aliya <strong>and</strong> she is a member of Kibbutz Givat Brenner.<br />
Heffner Imre 'Hefi'<br />
Born in Újpest in 1924<br />
Fell in the War of Independence<br />
Member of “Dror Habonim”<br />
Imre joined the movement in 1938. As refugees arrived from Pol<strong>and</strong> <strong>and</strong><br />
Slovakia, he gave them assistance. After the German invasion of<br />
Hungary on 19.3.1944, Imre went underground with the other members<br />
of the movement who had not been enlisted in <strong>for</strong>ced labor units. Imre<br />
traveled to the Miskolc ghetto, h<strong>and</strong>ed out <strong>for</strong>ged documents to<br />
comrades whom he smuggled into Budapest. In July 1944, he crossed<br />
the border into Romania within the framework of the tiyul <strong>and</strong> in August of<br />
the same year, he arrived in Eretz Israel (Palestine). Imre was one of the<br />
founders of Kibbutz Ein Zeitim <strong>and</strong> in 1947 he moved to Kvutzat Kinneret.<br />
He fought in the War of Independence <strong>and</strong> was killed in the battle <strong>for</strong> the<br />
Tzemah police station.<br />

Died on 8.12.1974 in Israel<br />
Member of “Hashomer Hatzair”<br />
Judith was active in the movement <strong>and</strong> the Zionist underground in<br />
Hungary during World War II. She was caught by the Hungarian fascists<br />
<strong>and</strong> the Gestapo, brutally tortured but did not break <strong>and</strong> did not reveal<br />
<strong>Brothers</strong> <strong>for</strong> <strong>Resistance</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>Rescue</strong> 131
