HIGH SCHOOL COACH OF THE WEEK & COACH OF THE YEAR
Steve Valach was presented with the High
School Coach of the Year Award at halftime of
a Seahawks game.
During the 10-week high school football
season the Washington State Football Coach -
es Association select two high school football
coaches as the Coach of the Week winners.
Each recipient receives a $500 donation to
the school’s football program from the Seattle
Seahawks and the NFL Youth Football Fund.
The Seahawks Women’s Association was
involved in more than 13 community events
last year. The association hosted a “Football
101” workshop to benefit charity as part of the
team’s broader campaign to raise awareness
for breast cancer. More than 100 fans registered
for the event which was held at the
Virginia Mason Athletic Center. The event
raised more than $8,000. Thirty-five members
of the Seahawks Women’s Association volunteered
for the event.
The group also participated in the Habitat
for Humanity Women Build by rebuilding
homes in the Rainier Vista area.
SEAHAWKS WOMEN’S ASSOCIATION
At the conclusion of the high school season,
all 20 coaches are invited to attend the Seattle
Seahawks High School Coach of the Week
luncheon.
Liberty High School’s Steve Valach was
named the 2009 Seattle Seahawks High
School Coach of the Year after his team posted
a 12-2 record and finished second in the
3A State Championship. Valach received a
$2,000 grant from the Seattle Seahawks as
well as the Jim Ennis Award.
NFL COACH OF THE YEAR
R obert Johnson, Head Coach at
Mission Viejo High School in Mission
Viejo, CA, was named the 2009 NFL
High School Football Coach of the Year.
Johnson was nominated by Seahawks
DE Nick Reed and New York Jets QB
Mark Sanchez, his former players. Coach
Johnson received a check for $5,000,
and a $10,000 grant was awarded to the
football program at Mission Viejo High
School. All grants are awarded by the
NFL Youth Football Fund.
