154 2009 SEASON
GAME 5 Seattle Seahawks 41, Jacksonville Jaguars 0
Sunday, October 11, 2009 — Qwest Field
In one of the most lopsided victories in team history, Seattle topped the Jacksonville Jaguars 41-0 for their
second shutout of the season. Seattle’s defense allowed 38 total rushing yards, tied for fifth fewest
allowed in team history. On offense, Matt Hasselbeck returned to the field after missing two starts with
broken ribs and passed for four touchdowns. Olindo Mare put Seattle on top 3-0 in the first quarter with
a 47 yarder. On the ensuing drive, Jacksonville decided to go for it on 4th-and-1 from the Seahawks 2-yard
line, but good pressure on the quarterback forced an incomplete pass. A second Mare field goal midway
through the second quarter put Seattle up 6-0. Hasselbeck connected with T.J. Houshmandzadeh on a 34-
yard strike before connecting with Nate Burleson on a 44-yard catch and run on the next offensive series
giving Seattle a 20-0 halftime lead. The third quarter saw a repeat of the second quarter scoring -
Hasselbeck hooking up with Houshmandzadeh and later Burleson to take a 34-0 lead. Four of Seattle’s five
sacks came in the second half with two forcing fumbles that resulted in touchdowns. Lawrence Jackson’s
sack and forced fumble was scooped up by Nick Reed to begin the fourth quarter and rumbled 79 yards
for a touchdown. With Seattle up 41-0, Seneca Wallace replaced Matt Hasselbeck in the fourth quarter and
engineered a drive that lasted the final 11:53 of the game. In the game, Darryl Tapp, Reed and Josh Wilson
also had sacks.
