GAME 8 Seattle Seahawks 32, Detroit Lions 20
Sunday, November 8, 2008 — Qwest Field
The Seahawks overcame one of the largest deficits in team history and pulled out a 32-20 win over the
Detroit Lions at Qwest Field. Following two turnovers and a failed fourth-and-1 attempt, the Seahawks surrendered
17 first-quarter points. On the opening drive, Detroit’s Jason Hanson hit the right upright on a
34-yard field goal attempt. However, on Seattle’s very first play from scrimmage Matt Hasselbeck was
intercepted by Louis Delmas and returned to the Seahawks 2-yard line where Matt Stafford and Brandon
Pettigrew connected on a 7-yard TD pass following a false start penalty. On Seattle’s very next play, a 10-
yard completion to Justin Griffith was fumbled. Stafford then hooked up with Bryant Johnson for a 29-
yard TD pass and a 14-0 lead. Seattle, facing a three-and-out on the next series, decided to go for it on
fourth-and-1 from their own 38-yard line. The run failed and the Lions tacked on a 41-yard Hanson field
goal. The tide turned in the second quarter when Seattle pieced together a 10-play drive resulting in a 2-
yard Julius Jones TD run. David Hawthorne intercepted the first of his two passes - one of five total on the
day for the Seahawks - on the next drive resulting in an Olindo Mare Field goal. Deon Grant followed suit
on the next series, also resulting in a Mare field goal with :02 remaining in the half pulling Seattle to within
17-13. Seattle outscored the Lions 10-0 in the third quarter behind another Mare field goal and a
Hasselbeck to T.J. Houshmandzadeh 2-yard TD pass for a 22-17 lead. The clubs swapped fourth-quarter field
goals before Josh Wilson put the game out of reach in the waning moments with a 61-yard interception
return for a TD. In the game, Hasselbeck became the team’s all-time leader in completions. His 39 completions
for the game was also a franchise record. After his first-quarter interception, he had a string of 15
consecutive completions tying the second-most in franchise history for a single game.
