draft, to Dallas for the Cowboys’ first-round selection and three second-round picks. The<br />

missing four games with an injury, Jim Zorn returns to lead Seattle to a 56-17 triumph over<br />

11/13 Seattle defense blanks the New York Jets, 17-0, in Shea Stadium, the first time an<br />

established team is shutout by a second-year team. 12/18 <strong>Seahawks</strong> win their fifth game<br />

of the year, a 20-19 decision over Cleveland before 61,583 fans in the Kingdome, to establish<br />

a record for most wins ever by a second-year expansion team.<br />

1978 — 5/3 Keith Simpson, cornerback from Memphis State, is selected as Seattle’s first-round<br />

draft choice followed by his college teammate Keith Butler, a linebacker, on the second<br />

round. 10/8 Efren Herrera kicks a 19-yard field goal on the final play of the game to give<br />

Seattle a 29-28 win over the Minnesota Vikings. 11/26 Seattle becomes the first team since<br />

1965 to beat Oakland twice during the regular season with a 17-16 win on Efren Herrera’s<br />

46-yard field goal with just three seconds remaining. 12/17 <strong>Seahawks</strong> end their third season<br />

with a 9-7 record and finish one game behind Denver in the AFC West standings following<br />

a 23-19 win over Kansas City. Al Hunter rushes for 133 yards on 27 carries as<br />

<strong>Seahawks</strong> perform before sixth-straight home sellout crowd.<br />

1979 — 1/29 Steve Largent catches a record-equaling five passes as Seattle’s first representative<br />

to the Pro Bowl. National Football Conference defeats Largent and his AFC teammates,<br />

13-7, in the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. 5/3 Manu Tuiasosopo, defensive tackle from<br />

UCLA, becomes Seattle's first-round draft choice. 10/29 After trailing 14-0, the <strong>Seahawks</strong><br />

rebound for a 31-28 win over Atlanta in Seattle’s first appearance on ABC’s Monday Night<br />

Football. Dan Doornink rushes for 122 yards on 21 carries and scores twice. 12/16 The<br />

<strong>Seahawks</strong> close out their second straight 9-7 season with a 29-24 win over Oakland. Sam<br />

McCullum sets a club record with 173 yards receiving on eight catches.<br />

1980 — 4/29 Seattle trades its first-round draft choice (#16) and a third-round pick to Buffalo<br />

for the Bills’ first-round choice, the tenth player in the draft. The <strong>Seahawks</strong> then select<br />

defensive end Jacob Green of Texas A&M on the first round. 9/28 <strong>Seahawks</strong> score second<br />

shutout in the club’s history with a 14-0 win over Washington Redskins in Robert F. Kennedy<br />

Memorial Stadium. 10/5 Sam McCullum catches two touchdown passes and Efren Herrera<br />

kicks four field goals in 26-7 win over Houston at the Astrodome. The win would prove to<br />

be Seattle's last of the season.<br />

1981 — 4/28 <strong>Seahawks</strong> select UCLA safety Kenny Easley on the first round of the NFL draft.<br />

11/8 Seattle holds the Pittsburgh Steelers scoreless in the second half and rallies for a pair<br />

of fourth quarter touchdowns to capture a 24-21 victory at the Kingdome. 11/16 The<br />

<strong>Seahawks</strong> score on their last eight possessions to defeat the San Diego Chargers, 44-23,<br />

on Monday Night Football. It is the <strong>Seahawks</strong>’ first regular season victory over the<br />

Chargers after eight straight losses.<br />

1982 — 3/11 Mike McCormack, former head coach with the Philadelphia Eagles and Baltimore<br />

Colts, is named Director of Football Operations. 4/27 <strong>Seahawks</strong> select Clemson defensive<br />

end Jeff Bryant in the first round of the college draft. 9/21 Players go on strike for 57 days.<br />

10/13 Mike McCormack named interim head coach after the firing of head coach Jack<br />

Patera and general manager John Thompson. 11/21 <strong>Seahawks</strong> capture 17-10 victory over<br />
