GAME 9 Arizona Cardinals 31, Seattle Seahawks 20
Sunday, November 15, 2009 — University of Phoenix Stadium
The Seahawks, looking to pull within one game of division-leading Arizona, held a three-point lead in the
fourth quarter but could not hold onto victory losing to the Cardinals 31-20. The Seahawks took a 14-0 lead
midway through the second quarter behind a Justin Forsett 11-yard TD, that capped a 99-yard scoring
drive, and later a 31-yard TD reception by John Carlson. Setting up Seattle’s 99-yard drive was a goal line
stand on 4th-and-goal from the 1-yard line. The Cardinals pulled to within 14-7 when Kurt Warner and
Steve Breaston connected on a 28-yard TD strike. Seattle tacked on a field goal to go up 17-7 with just 1:09
remaining in the first half, but the Cardinals matched the Seahawks field goal with one of their own as
time expired. Chris Wells tied the game for Arizona with a 10-yard TD run on the Cardinals opening drive
of the second half. Seattle moved the ball to the Cardinals’ 1-yard line early in the fourth quarter, but was
forced to settle for a 20-yard Olindo Mare field goal to go back on top 20-17. Warner led back-to-back TD
drives for the Cardinals giving Arizona a 31-20 lead with 6:11 left to play in the game. Interceptions on
Seattle’s final two drives thwarted hopes of a come back. Justin Forsett, who was forced into action
because of an early chest injury to Julius Jones, rushed for career highs with 17 carries and 123 yards
against the Cardinals’ fourth-ranked rush defense. Hasselbeck passed for 300 or more yards in consecutive
games for the fist time since 2004, while T.J. Houshmandzadeh’s 165 receiving yards were the most
for Seattle since Koren Robinson’s 166 at St. Louis on October 20, 2002.
