results. The primary challenge of conducting the <strong>Games</strong> was<br />

to plan all activities and coordinate various activities in such<br />

a manner that everything happened on time. A number of<br />

workshops were conducted in all 17 sports for updating the<br />

officials’ knowledge which helped to increase the number<br />

of qualified technical official. Selection and training of Sport<br />

Specific Volunteers, coming from various parts of the country,<br />

was a major task, especially for new sports such as Netball,<br />

Lawn Bowls and Rugby Sevens. The technical Conduct of all<br />

the 17 Sports was outstanding.<br />

Key Lessons<br />

• Streamlined integration between the international<br />

federations, national federations and sports competition is<br />

essential for good results<br />

• Test events in 17 Sports provided an opportunity to various<br />

FAs to assess their level of preparedness and overcome<br />

shortcomings<br />

SUSTAINABILITY AND<br />

ENVIRONMENT<br />

The Sustainability and Environment FA worked toward<br />

developing strategic initiatives to reduce and offset the key<br />

environmental footprints of the event. This has been done with<br />

the overall objective of striving to achieve a Consumption-<br />

Carbon Neutral status for the <strong>Games</strong>. Further, the FA also<br />

developed programmes and initiatives for eco awareness<br />

through Green Sensitisation programmes. The FA has also<br />

worked toward developing media strategy for appropriately<br />

publicising the OC CWG Delhi 2010`s Eco-Conscious Will.<br />

Recommendations<br />

• It is imperative that all stakeholders (municipal agencies,<br />

local government, etc.) be assembled on a common<br />

platform to address sustainability issues pertaining to the<br />

<strong>Games</strong>. Roles and responsibilities of each stakeholder need<br />

to be defined along with interdependencies. An effective<br />

project management and compliance system was put<br />
