• The Delhi Jal Board (DJB) has also set up a new Sewage<br />
Treatment Plant that will help tackle pollution in the<br />
Yamuna.<br />
• Plastic bags have been banned in Delhi<br />
Venue Designs<br />
Delhi 2010 did not just preach the message of environmental<br />
protection, but also practised it. All Delhi 2010 venues were<br />
designed to ensure minimal impact on the environment:<br />
• Thyagaraj Stadium, the venue for Netball, is India’s first<br />
‘Green’ stadium,<br />
• Waste from the OC CWG Delhi 2020 Headquarters was<br />
recycled<br />
• Utilisation of novel techniques such as:<br />
* CFL and light emitting diaode (LED) lighting<br />
* Rainwater harvesting<br />
* Reverse Osmosis water purification to minimise bottled<br />
water consumption<br />
* Water-saving sprinkler systems<br />
* Heat recovery systems to reduce air conditioning load<br />
Change in Mindset<br />
The abovementioned measures, effective and<br />
groundbreaking as they are, will not be successful in<br />
isolation. Any major change, especially in a critical area such<br />
as our environment, required an alteration in the public’s<br />
mindset. Delhi 2010 has initiated this process thanks to the<br />
revolutionary Green <strong>Games</strong> programme. This saw the OC<br />
