QUEEN’S BATON RELAY 2010 DELHI<br />

A Unifying Force<br />

One of the longest relays in <strong>Commonwealth</strong><br />

history commenced when the Queen’s<br />

Baton 2010 Delhi left Buckingham Palace.<br />

London, on 29 October 2009. The baton traversed<br />

the length and breadth of the <strong>Commonwealth</strong> for<br />

240 days, visiting all <strong>Commonwealth</strong> Nations and<br />

Territories. At the end of its epic international and<br />

national journey, the baton had travelled for 340<br />

days and covered in excess of 190,000 kilometres.<br />

The international sector of the Queen’s Baton Relay<br />

2010 Delhi was definitely a huge success despite the<br />

many planning and logistics hurdles that had to be<br />

overcome. The national sector of the Queen’s Baton<br />

Relay 2010 Delhi was also a marketing success. It met<br />

the aims it set out to achieve. The relay touched the<br />

lives of millions of people and increased awareness<br />

about the <strong>Commonwealth</strong> and the <strong>Games</strong>. The large<br />

number of people lining the route every day for miles<br />

was a testament to the support the relay received<br />

on its journey throughout India. The baton’s 100<br />

day journey throughout India was twice as long as<br />

the national sectors for the Manchester 2002 and<br />

Melbourne 2006 Queen’s Baton Relays.<br />
