(16-24 yrs) Residential and non-residential vocational training and education<br />

programs. Students spend half their time in vocational training and half time in basic<br />

education/GED preparation. Stipends between $20 and $40 per month for incidental<br />

spending plus a clothing allowance during first year. Job Corps curriculum generally<br />

lasts two years. Applicants must be in good physical and mental health condition with<br />

no pending court matters. Participants receive complete physical examination and<br />

medical care, occupational counseling, drug prevention counseling, general counseling<br />

and recreational and cultural events.<br />

Lifeguards and Swimming pool staff - Washington area public and private pools are<br />

in need of life guards and swimming pool staff. Life guards and pool attendants are<br />

“required” to be on duty during all operating hours. Hires must be able to pass certain<br />

physical requirements and swimming skills.<br />

o DC Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) has summer positions for<br />

lifeguards, assistant pool managers, and pool managers. (16 yrs +) DC<br />

residency not required. Applicants must already possess basic swimming<br />

skills and pass a lifeguard certification course. Salary range $10 to $13 per<br />
